After you get bitten by the dog, the first thing you want to do is get a hold of the police and get somebody there to make a record. Um, you know, you want to find out from the dog owner if they’re cooperative, the dog has updated shots. You want to find out as much information as you can about who owns the dog because just because a dog is somewhere doesn’t mean the owner’s there. But let’s face it, people that own dogs, when they even when they bite somebody, as much as we’d like to think they’re

going to be compassionate to the person that got bitten, they’re not always because sometimes the first focus they have is, uh-oh, are they going to put my dog down? So, I think the first thing you need to do whenever you get bit by a dog is you got to kind of assess the situation with who’s there. But I always tell people, get the police there. Start to get as much information as you can so you can figure out who the dog owner is if they have their shots. You know, get some photographs as quickly as you can.

And then you’re going to want to seek out medical attention for obvious reasons in case you know you need a tetanis shot. Hopefully not rabies shots, but sometimes. But the bigger thing is just making sure you identify who’s all at the scene and get the cops there so that they can they’re going to have a better way of locking down the information than you and likely getting people to talk and not lie to them as much as sometimes dog owners do that with individuals before the police arrive.
