Well, here what an in independent medical exam is is kind of an interesting question. So many of us on the injured person side of the things of things don’t even use that term. We use adverse medical exam but if having looking at it from the side of the insurance company they at least think it’s independent which it is anything but that.
So, with an independent medical exam, that’s termed by the insurance companies, um, they pick the doctor, they pay the doctor, and generally speaking, the majority of the doctors that they’re picking and paying, especially the ones that they do over and over again, are going to almost always say what the insurance company wants. So, you know, it’s it’s allegedly independent because it’s the what the insurance companies have at their disposal in order to try to stop paying benefits to injured people. But the injured people have to remember it’s anything but that. Now, having said all that, they need to be on their guard.
They need to be aware that the person that’s trying to befriend them and get them to talk is only doing that for for their own interests. On the other hand, I know a lot of people go into those examinations and they try to be confrontational and such too, and at least my position is that’s never a wise move because even though they’re on the side of the insurance company and they’re not independent, the only way you’re ever going to get one of them to say something favorable to you is make them like you.
So, kind of outside the topic, maybe I still think you go in there, you just put your best foot forward, you try to tell the truth as best you can and be accurate. And you know, when you’re legitimately hurt, you just hope that that individual will see it that way and tell the insurance company.
